Gojyo had lived a long life, longer then most humans, thanks to his demonic blood. After the journey ended, they all separated. Goku and Sanzo went back to the temple and lived their lives in their own ways, and Hakkai found a nice woman to settle down with and had a dozen children, just like he once had talked about.
As for Gojyo? He refused to settle down, said it wasn’t his style. Instead, he continued as long as he could, drinking, gambling and womanizing. And when he couldn’t land the women anymore? He just gambled and drank. He always said that such a life suited him just fine.
But as Gojyo grew older…he couldn’t help but feel alone. And as he lied there, on his death bed, with his only visitors having been Hakkai and the others, he couldn’t help but feel, incomplete. Goku and Sanzo had their weird…family with one another. And Hakkai had his family, but what did he have?
Nothing. He had nothing. He had always said he never needed anyone, but that wasn’t true, was it? He regretted it now, never having started his own family. His brother…had died during the final battles over the sutras. He was alone. It could have been different. He could of done like Hakkai and made a new family. But he didn’t.
And as he took his final breath, all the red haired kappa could feel was overwhelming regret. He had never meant to isolate himself so much.
But it was too late now.
He was already dead.
