Drabble for 30songs

Pairing or Character/Fandom: Hatori and Ayame/Fruits Basket
Theme:#16. Frozen by Madonna
Title: Melting Serenade
Author/Artist: the_unvictim
Disclaimer: I don’t own Fruits Basket. I also don’t own Madonna or any of her songs.

Warnings: Slightly OOC? I write Ayame decently enough, but I fail at Hatori.

"It's a bad idea," Hatori argued firmly with the other man, taking a step back from him. This argument…it should of never of started. Of course, he blamed himself. He was the one who was supposed to be in control, making sure that nothing happened. He had been aware of Ayame's attraction to him for a while, it wasn't like the other man hid it or anything like that.

What had surprised him was how he had become slowly attracted to Ayame as well. Maybe that's why, moments before, he had let his guard down and kissed the hebi, which had led to the argument of whether they should date or not. He was snapped out of his thoughts as the other man began to sing quietly, almost tauntingly.

You only see what your eyes want to see
How can life be what you want it to be
You're frozen
When your heart's not open

Hatori had to suppress a smile in spite of himself. Of all the songs for Ayame to choose…well, that one was certainly fitting. He had been frozen for a long time, but with good reason. He didn't want what happened to Kana to happen to Ayame. He didn't think he would be able to handle suffering something like that again.

You're so consumed with how much you get
You waste your time with hate and regret
You're broken
When your heart's not open

Ayame took another step closer to the other man, looking almost smug as he continued singing the song. Hatori made a mental note that next time he had the chance, he was confiscating all of Ayame's Madonna CDs. Especially if they encouraged behavior like this.

Mmmmmm, if I could melt your heart
Mmmmmm, we'd never be apart
Mmmmmm, give yourself to me
Mmmmmm, you hold the key

Ayame held out his hand, looking at the other man expectantly. Hatori tried to word out some sort of argument of protest…but failed in thinking of one. He sighed, and in an almost resigned fashion, took the other man's hand.

Now there's no point in placing the blame
And you should know I suffer the same
If I lose you
My heart will be broken

Ayame grasped his hand firmly, reeling in the other man, still whispering the words softly as he wrapped his arms around Hatori in a warm embrace. If he could just find a way to get the other man to see…things didn’t have to be so cold. His voice was no longer calm like it had been in the beginning of the song, but almost trembling now, as if his confidence for once was wavering.

Hatori could barely stand the look of defeat on the other man’s face, and before he had a chance to sing anymore of it, he grabbed Ayame’s chin, trapping him with a soft, almost innocent kiss. Within moments, the heat of the kiss began to grow due to the longing on both sides.

And as they began to stumble towards the bed, lips still locked together intensely, Hatori could swear he could hear Ayame humming the chorus again underneath the kiss.

Mmmmmm, if I could melt your heart
Mmmmmm, we'd never be apart
Mmmmmm, give yourself to me
Mmmmmm, you hold the key

Maybe. Just maybe, the dragon thought with one of his rare smiles, spring could come again.
